I’m not a big fan of her music and her performances ( shocked can only describe my face watching blood spew out of her stomach during her performance at the 2009 VMA’s)

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys

Empire State of Mind is the new anthem for New York City, thought I’m not a new yorker I hope to be soon and this song if very inspiring for all those who love NYC.

Carrie Underwood

I’m not a big fan of country music, but Carrie can sing, I have respect for singers who chose not to lip sync their songs during live performances.

Shakira

Though I wish she didn’t lip sync during her performance, I liked the dancers/steppers that performed with her.

Rihanna

Her performance was good. I like that her songs have a mix of reggae and pop .

Honor Society Sings Jordin Spark’s “Battlefield”

They’ve recently released their new album, Fashionably Late their done a nice cover of Jordin Spark’s latest single “Battlefield”. Tina Fey Covers Harper’s Bazaar November Issue

Tina Fey is gracing next months cover of Harper’s Bazaar, and giving a hilarious interview about balancing her career, motherhood and marriage. Here’s an excerpt from the interview: “A typical Fey day sounds like a punch line, but more for a black comedy: “Work, come home, play, kid bounce, work again, go to bed.” She has thought about yoga, even done it a couple times. “But,” she notes, “even yoga classes go on 80 or 90 minutes.” Not for Tina the ethos of Gwyneth Paltrow or Madonna, with their two hours plus of bendiness a day. “You will still die,” she observes. “I’ll do grave yoga. Someone can come and stretch me in my grave.”

Hispanic Heritage Month: Raising Victor Vargas

I would’ve posted Raising Victor Vargas anyway because I love this movie, but it seems appropriate being that its Hispanic Heritage Month and this movie stars three talented  Latina/o young actors Victor Rasuk (Stop-Loss, Lords of Dogtown) and Judy Marte (On The Outs, X’s and O’s) and Melonie Diaz ( Be Kind Rewind, Itty Bitty Titty Committee). Introducing Marina Chello

On being a professional artist and landing a record deal new artist Marina Chello describes it as “surreal”. The daughter of rocker father, she chose to continue the family’s tradition for the love of music, just a different genre: R&B and Pop.  She moved with her family to New York City at age 11, transitioning from Russia to New York was a huge change for her, especially adapting to the culture “It was a big task because I didn’t know the language”. Her passion for music helped her make the transition. She listened to the music industry’s greatest female singers, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, etc. to help her learn English. Having the arguably the world’s greatest singers be her guide to the English language was definitely shows through the vocal range, singing  songs by Andrea Bocelli and Alicia Keys featured on her YouTube page. Though she always wanted to be a singer, during her high school years she had an alternative career to fall back on: attend college and eventually law school.

She’s another “MySpace” success story, after opening an account; she met President of Crazy Joint Records, Harve Pierre (former executive at Bad Boy Records) and auditioned for him.  She was signed soon after and recalls the Her favorite song on her debut album “What’s Done Is Done” is “ Sideline”, an emotional R&B/Pop ballad that tells the story of neglect. The song was an immediate match for the album, “Sideline is the reason why we chose it, the moment I heard it, and I had tears in my eyes.” Since she’s still in the midst of recording her debut album, she knows how hard it is to actually live out your dream and deal with the reality of it, in terms of advice, she recommends “work on your craft if you really love it, work on the business but really get in the studio and work on your craft.”
