Last night, Saleisha, the receptionist and Los Angeles native has been named the winner of America’s Next Top Model. I couldn’t not believe it. From the beginning I thought that her Lisa and Heather would be the top three, so I was happy that at least one of my picks, being Saleisha, was in the top three. At first, I didn’t think she was going to win, being that during the Cover Girl commercial challenge for their new lip gloss: Wetslicks Fruit Spritzershttp://www.covergirl.com/products/product.jsp?productId=wetslicks_fruit_spritzers .She was having a hard time with her commercialand judges said her voice was robotic, when delivering the lines. But, she made up for it in the photo shoot and in the final challenge against Dallas, Texas native Chantal. Saleisha’s walk showed confidence and “fierce”.

Marie Claire Jan. 2008 Issue: Christina Bares All

12 Dec

christina_aguilera1.jpg

For all my readers out there, be sure to pick up the January 2008 issue of Marie Claire , www.marieclaire.com .  My fave singer of all time, Christina Aguilera is gracing the cover, looking very pregnant and in her interview, gushing about expecting her first child. Although some people might disapprove, I think its great that she exposed her belly for Marie Claire, she makes a statement: just because you’re pregnant, doesn’t mean you can’t be as sexy as when you weren’t pregnant. If I decide to ever have children, I hope to carry my growing belly in a sexy, classy way, like her and other pregnant celebs(i.e. Halle Berry, Nicole Richie, Jennifer Lopez, etc.).

If you didn’t know, other celebs have shown of their belly’s as well: Demi Moore in 1991 for Vanity Fair www.vanityfair.com and Britney Spears in 2006 for Harper’s Bazaar, www.harpersbazaar.com

P.S. congrats to new mom -to-be actress Jessica Alba: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20165722,00.html

A shot at love with Tila Tequila

13 Nov

I’m not into dating/reality television shows, however ” A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila” on MTV, http://www.mtv.com/ontv/dyn/tila_tequila/series.jhtml,  has is slowly starting to grow on me. Googling her, Tila Tequila, www.myspace.com/tilatequila, seems to me named the “Queen of Myspace”, being also a model/rapper. It kind of reminds me of an edgy, rated M.A. version of I Love New York. It does involve a lot of sexuality, being that Tila is bisexual and she has 16 boys and 16 girls fighting for her affection, but it more drama between the contestants more than anything. This is shown especially with male contestant Ashley (man… why does he have to ruin the Ashley name ?LOL) causing a fight with fellow contestant Bobby, saying that he is the only person there for Tila and everyone is just there for the fame.

Breast Cancer Survivor Story

1 Nov

1030071711.jpg

I know Breast Cancer Awareness Month ended yesterday, but I forgot to post an interview I had a week ago. Bashira Brown is a two-time breast cancer survivor, and I met her during a photo shoot for the organization, The Gem Project (www.thegemproject.org ), a breast cancer awareness showcase. Here’s her story.

Here is the interview with Breast Cancer an african-american survivor Bashira Brown. Bashira,a mother and cosmotlogist, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 24, andis now 28 years old. Bashira has no family history of breast cancer, and was diagnosed twice, and have survived her battle with breast cancer.Because of her battle, she now works with two organizations:in Northern New Jersey, “Look Good and Feel Better“, an organizationthat goes to local hosipitals once a month in Essex County, New Jerseyto give breast cancer patients/survivors makeovers, teach them the twelvesteps of make-up and tell the ladies how to look goodand feel better. Her other organization, “Just for you” provides free wigs, brasand prothesis for women who have medicade, which is located in East Hanover, NJ.

How did you first find out you had breast cancer?

I always get irritation from deodorants, and one day found a lump under my right arm. I went to the OBGYN and she told me I needed to see a breast specialist ,afterwards I had a biopsy and they told me it was breast cancer.

What treatments did you go through afterwards?

I went through chemotherapy the first time, I had another recurrence in 2006. They also gave me a mastectomy. Once it occurred, they had to remove a tumor in my chest and eleven lymph nodes under my arm.

How did you deal with having breast cancer?

First I went through a state of depression, saying “Why Me, I’m too young”, but I had God on my side, watching me night and day. And i knew they have up to date cancer treatments that help you live longer.

What advice can you give to women who do not want to get mammograms, or check-ups at their doctor that deal with breast cancer?

Don’t be afraid, the longer you wait your risk could be even higher and it may not be as scary as you think. I think that once young women are fully developed and they have a B or C cup, they should get tested. When I was tested, after my first operation, they found three in my other breast.

Were there any friends or family members that helped you get through it?

My aunt,my sister, my daughter(who was two at the time and is now six) and my grandmother, were my inspirations that’s gonna help me get through this.

Any advice can you give to women who have breast cancer and are afraid b/c of it?

In the beginning, its not going to be easy but towards the end, it wasn’t as bad as I expected.

Live Free or Die Hard

6 Jul

If you’re not one of the millions of people who saw the new Bruce Willis movie: Live Free or Die Hard, you’re missing some great action scenes, funny jokes and explosions that might give your a headache after the movie is over, LOL. I’m not a big fan of action movies (and have never seen a Die Hard movie either), but on July 4th , my family and I went to go see the 4th installment to the Die Hard Series. I only know Bruce Willis from the late 1980′s comedy Look Who’s Talking, so I had no idea whose John McClain was.

The movie is about two hours of fighting (Bruce Willis and bad girl Mai Lin, played by actress Maggie Q, is unreal!!!!), amazing stunts, and explosions that made everyone in the theatre gasp with excitement. It firsts starts off in New Jersey, Detective John McClain has followed his daughter on a date and argues with her about their distant relationship. It is also revealed that she goes to Rutgers University ( OMG, another Rutgers plug, this school, including the newark and camden campuses are a force to be reckoned with, check it out, www.rutgers.edu, www.nbp.rutgers.edu www.newark.rutgers.edu, www.camden.rutgers.edu ).

After the fight, he is then ordered travel to Camden to save a computer hacker, Matt Farrell, played by Justin Long ( the guy from the PC vs. MAC commercials) and the rest is history. Bruce Willis is your ultimate action hero , getting up everytime he is knocked down, either by plane or cop car. Also, Justin Long kept the crowd laughing with his nerdy humor (when asked by John if he’s okay, he replies “I skinned my knee and my asthma is acting up, but I’m okay”,), there’s even a cameo from Kevin Smith, playing the ultimate hacker to also helps John McClain. I give this movie, two thumbs up and defientley reccomend to see it, its the ultimate summer movie!!!!www.livefreeordiehard.com

For NYC Lovers Only

29 May

Although both these movies are geared toward the younger audience, if you love NYC and the underdog, you’ll love these two movies. Little Manhattan, an independent film that debuted in 2005, is about a Gabe, a 10 year old boy from the Upper West Side who experiences his first taste at love with Rosemary Telesco, a 11 year-old childhood friend who soon becomes his first crush. Although the movie is more about love its also liking an hour and 20 minutes advertising for NYC, with Central Park being one of the main characters. Its a love story that anyone from 11 to 26 to 40 can relate too, a must see if you’re interested in enduring the adventure that is NYC. Also, the independent documentary, Mad Hot Ballroom, also featured in 2005, show’s three NYC schools prepare to compete in a annual dancing competition. Although the contest is open to over 30 teams, the film focuses on three teams as they dance the salsa, groove to the swing, and move their hips while doing the tango. The children’s answers to questions about life are extremely funny. When a boy was asked about the changes that happen to boys when they turn 11, he complained about washing twice a day, and changing his bed sheets after he peed and use deodorant, and if you’re looking for more laughs, one girl stated that 11 year old girls are the number one target for kidnappers right next to her classmate, another 11 year old girl whose facial expression is priceless. All three teams are underdogs in their own rights, one from Brooklyn, another from Tribeca and the last from Washington heights, they all show their desire to win but to also have fun at the same time. Be sure to check out their websites: www.littlemanhattan.com and www.paramountvantage.com/madhot/
