Good Girl Gone Shopping

10 Sep

If you need fashion advice, or want to know the latest trends, or simply just love chicness, check out Good Girl Gone Shopping. I’ve been a fan of this blog for several months now and can’t get enough of it. Elana Brin Pruitt operates this blog for fashionistas and those who want to be. Ms. Pruitt is a journalism educated women of all trades, being a blogger of Good Girl Gone Shopping & BeautyChat, a fashion editor for Agenda Magazine, a contributor to Fashion Chicago Magazine and an Editorial Manager at Plastic Surgery.com. For a person whose first love is writing and second is fashion, she puts both talents to good use.  By being a personal shopper she helps those who need help in the chic department. She also features profiles of people in the fashion industry and writes posts on the latest shoes, jeans, blouses, accessories, etc. that the average girl needs to know.

P.S., She even gave me advice on how to revamp my wardrobe on a limited college student budget.

Tammy Tibbetts: Writer of a few Blogs You Should Check Out!

Tammy Tibbetts is an up and coming magazine editor who, at first look at her experience, I was completely intimidated by. Her resume is filled with internships and freelance work from the likes of such magazines as JANE Magazine. Seventeen Magazine, CosmoGIRL! Magazine and Ladies Home Journal. And in person, she’s very nice and sincere, with a personality that everyone is going to automatically like. I first met her  when I sent in an e-mail to write for the nywici NEXT newsletter, she was the editor in chief/founder of it, and told me I would have to sign up as a member of New York Women in Communications Inc. in order to write for the newsletter. NYWICI, www.nywici.org, an organization for women who aspire or already have a career in communications (such as advertising, publishing, public relations, print journalism etc.). I signed up and was featured as the student spotlight for Spring 2007  issue. I’m writing about this today because I received an e-mail from her talking about her new blog, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, www.newyorktoliberia.wordpress.com, which showcases her journey to Liberia as she volunteers there and writes about her experience. Its something that you should definitely check out. I also like to read her other blog Pretty Lady, www.prettylady.wordpress.com , which features posts on fashion, lifestyle, good books to read, magazine career advice, the best places to be and be seen in NYC and much more for a gal whose interested in a career in magazines. So, definetly check out both blogs by Tammy Tibbetts, www.tammytibbetts.com , there a must read!

Jossip

jossiplogo2.jpeg

Jossip is a blog that has slowly become one of my many go to blogs when I want to know about celebs, the latest chaos in Manhattan or just want some (dare I say it) gossip. I’ve heard about it before but have never been much a reader the way I am now. Its publisher David Hauslaib, was a student at Syarcuse University, www.syracuse.edu, when he first started Jossip. He first only did it because he likes gossip, so he started his own blog. At first it was only viewed by his friends, but overtime his readership grew, he became more popular, and started to look as his blog as a business. By using advertisements on his blog. Now Jossip is the go to place for the latest Manhattan/Celebrity news and its publishing company, Jossip Initiatives, has created three other blogs under its wings: Mollygood, www.mollygood.com, a blog that lists the last gossip on celebs from the A-list to the D-list, Queerty, www.queerty.com, a blog as they call it “with a gay agenda” and Stereohyped, www.stereohyped.com, one of my fave blogs, which I already listed in the section Blogs I love.

Be sure to check out Jossip at www.jossip.com and to view a semi-history of some very popular blogs, view this article from New York Magazine at: http://nymag.com/news/media/15967/

Stereohyped

18 Oct

stereohypedlogo.jpeg

With this new look on my blog (which I am always changing by the way), I’m not able to have blogroll that lists my favorite blogs, so I created the new category, “Blogs I Love”, which is about blogs I love to read and why. My first “blog that I love, is written by Lauren Williams. She is a former newspaper writer turned blogger whose blog, Stereohyped, www.stereohyped.com, is about politics, education, culture, entertainment, and other crazy stuff from a black perspective. I love this blog because its like the words are coming out of my mouth. Lauren is an educated woman who speaks the truth and holds nothing back, she uses this blog as a gateway to the black community, a group of educated, career driven African-Americans who can read Stereohyped for posts on Barack Obama for an intellectual perspective and read about the latest celeb to cause drama for an entertainment perspective. You should definetley check it out, Stereohyped,www.stereohyped.com
