I know this is my third youtube video in a row, but since August 8, 2008 is the luckiest day of the year, I decided to post a video filled with a postive message. Recently, professor Randy Pausch has passed away from his battle with cancer. However, for the past year, he has gained media coverage for his lectures to anyone willing to listen, to live their life to the fullest. I know this video is old by now, but i just wanted to post it.
HBO Documentary Films Presents:
24 JunHBO, one of the best cable networks in the world, has yet made another reason why HBO receives critical acclaim for its films and shows. A couple weeks ago, the network debuted its new series of documentaries, “HBO Films Presents….”, which premieres a new documentary every monday during the summer, that showcases varies from eduaction, to coming out to autism. One docuemtary that is mandatory to watch is “Resolved”. It featured two high school debate teams: one predominately white and the other black. It focused on the art of high school debating and the process that students go through during their debate matches. “Hard Times at Douglass High: A No Child Left Behind Report Card”,a film focusing on how students at Frederick Douglass High school in Baltimore City are affected by the No Child Left Behind Act. If you’re a fan of the fourth season of The Wire, then this documentary is a must see. Its ironic how a high school whose most famous alumni is Thurgood Marshall turned out to be a school where most students are likely to join a gang than graduate. Hopefully this documentary will be a wake-up call for everyone: students, teachers, parents, to stop blaming each other and start working together to stop this cycle of drop-outs, low self-esteem, joining gangs, teen pregnancy, etc., and change it into a positive.

4 AprWomen’s History Month
3 MarNow, I know you know that March is the official month for Women’s History Month. This month is to appreciate women, their struggles and victories, from getting the right to vote to trying to end sexual harassment and/or discrimination in the workplace. Like Black History Month, if you’re a college student, be sure to see what your campus is planning for Women’s History Month and see what the departments of Women’s Studies or Gender Studies have to offer. As well as the local library and museum.
For example, Rutgers-Newark already have several events planned for Women’s History Month, as well as Rutgers-Camden, and Rutgers-New Brunswick and be sure to check out the departments of women’s studies at Rutgers in Newark and New Brunswick. And check out these websites as well: Radical Women, Feministing, National Women’s Health Center and Ween.
What should be the Theme to Women’s History Month (and women in general)
3 MarPhenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them,They think I’m telling lies.I say,It’s in the reach of my arms The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That’s me.
I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man,The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees.I say,It’s the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth,The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet.I’m a woman Phenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That’s me.
Men themselves have wondered What they see in me.They try so much But they can’t touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them They say they still can’t see.I say,It’s in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile,The ride of my breasts,The grace of my style.I’m a woman Phenomenally.Phenomenal woman,That’s me.
Now you understand Just why my head’s not bowed.I don’t shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing It ought to make you proud.I say,It’s in the click of my heels,The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need of my care,’Cause I’m a woman Phenomenally.Phenomenal woman, That’s me.

The Secret
24 FebThe Secret
For all you people who read this blog, do you believe in The Secret? Does it really work? What do you think of it?
I’ve seen this on Oprah, and it does make sense. If you send out negative vibes, or always have a pessimistic vibe, negative things will happen and if you think optimistic thoughts and do positive things, your life will be positive. Its karma: what you do will come back to you. I saw the first twenty minutes of the secret and I’m tempted to buy the book and/or the DVD, to see if The Secret really works and maybe do an experiment with following the rules of The Secret for 30 days (because of the show 30 days, from film-maker Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me) It’ll be featured on my other blog: A.N.E.W., I’ll blog about it every three days, starting later during the week. Be sure to check it out and give me your thoughts about The Secret
