In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, I chose to feature pop/rock singer JD Natasha (and because I love music featuring female artists with strong voices). Born Natasha Jeanett Dueñas, the Florida native of Cuban and Argentine descent, debuted her first and only album, Imperfecta/Imperfect in 2004. She received praise for the single “Lágrimas” which was also nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category “Best Rock Song” She was also nominated for Best New Artist and Rock Solo Vocal Album. She has yet release any solo music, but according to her myspace page, she is lead singer of the rock/indie band Fancy Me Yet
Here is one of my fave songs by her “Plastico”

If you haven’t heard, Connecticut has legalized same-sex marriage. Connecticut is now the third state in the country (i.e. California and Massachusetts) that allows gay marriage legally. Other states such as New Jersey, Vermont and Hawaii have civil unions a.k.a. domestic partnerships. Let’s hope it stays legal and continues to be established in the rest of the U.S. I’m posting Melange Lavonne’s new single, “I’ve Got You”, because it seemed appropriate, being that marriage and family life mostly go hand in hand.
Although Whitney Houston, Faith Evans & Kelly Price are still relevant today, “Heartbreak Hotel” is almost a decade old (9 years to be exact). And, I loved this song when it came out, Whitney’s My Love Is Your Love album was one of her best albums.
Christina Aguilera “Genie in A Bottle Remix/ Keeps Gettin Better”
Rihanna “Disturbia”
Pink ” So What”
Just in case you missed it, here is “Stand Up To Cancer” performed by a variety of female artists.
Harlem World was a hip-hop group that former rapper-turned pastor-turned rapper Mase created in the late 90′s. It consisted of rappers Cardan, Stase (Mase’s twin sister) and rapper Blinky Blink. They are most known for their hit “I Really Like It”. Harlem World released an album, “The Movement”in 1999, which received bad reviews. Looking for info on this group was very difficult.. Typing “Harlem World” in search engines, the first thing that comes up is Mase’s album “Harlem World”. However, I chose this video because “I Really Like It” seems like a great song to play for the Labor Day weekend.
Ne-Yo “Miss Independent”
I love this song so much. I like songs by women, embracing independence and female empowerment, but songs by males about positive messages for women are rarely made and/or heard. Its great to see a man recognizing women’s accomplishments and not bringing a woman down for them. Its so inspirational on so many levels (for women, for African-American women). Kudos to Ne-Yo, he always makes the sweetest songs
