If you were a fan of TRL back in 2003, you might remember Canadian pop/rock Fefe Dobson. Her debut U.S. single “Take Me Away” was a hit on the show, as well as her next single “Everything”, which was on the soundtrack of the MTV movie “The Perfect Score”. She was like a breath of fresh air for me. To actually see a brown girl in rock music, in my generation was great. Seeing women in rock music is more well-known today, but seeing women of color in rock is rare. I bought her self-titled debut album and loved every song. My fave’s are “We Went For A Ride”, “8×10″ and “Unforgiven”. She was set to release her sophomore album, Sunday Love, in 2005, but her label, Island/Def Jam pushed back its released date a couple of times and eventually canceled it. I’ve listened to a couple songs from Sunday Love on her myspace page, and their not bad. Its a more mature version of Fefe, and I would’ve purchased it. Now, she’s gone independent with her music and released the song “Watch Me Move”, which is also the theme song to comedian Margaret Cho’s reality TV show. Hopefully 2009 will be her year to shine, and bring some color back to rock music because she definetly is needed. Click on the links below to learn more about her and her music:
