I’ve been getting several hits for Carrie Bradshaw’s (of Sex and the City of course) website. When Sex and the City Movie premiered, her website was featured in the film and was an actual website that featured the her career as a writer (and a couple photos of the movie) . But sometime after the movie was released on DVD www.carriebradshaw.com began to  show the Sex and the City:The Movie website and not Carrie’s. So, for now, there Carrie Bradshaw doesn’t have a website.

This week I’m going to feature female singers of African descent who are artists to watch.I chose to name this post Black Girls Rock, to showcase black artists to watch but also black women who are in rock music, so I’m going to feature singers (whose music I like) of various music genres..Some you may have heard of and some you haven’t. I hope you enjoy it.

Vogue Magazine is featuring two black women in a row now after featuring Beyonce on the April Issue. I heard this was her first time on the cover of Vogue (correct me if I’m wrong). The cover looks great, its more Beyonce than Sasha Fierce and I like her hair being pulled back and featuring a dark brown color than her regular brown. Check out the her interview with Vogue Magazine here

Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

13 Mar

Since today is Friday the 13th, I decided to post a couple youtube videos of “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”. I miss the old Nickelodeon (and the old Disney Channel).

Here are my faves:

The Quiet Librarian  Part 1 of 3

(“Hush”, an episode from Buffy The Vampire Slayer was supposedly based on this episode)

The Tale of Quicksliver Part 1 of 3 (Tayana Ali stars in this episode)

The Tale of the Chameleon (Tia & Tamera Mowry star in this episode)

The L Word (2004-2009)

(This is my favorite photo of the cast)

I’ve only been a fan of The L Word since season four, but I’ve been able to catch up with the three seasons I missed via Youtube. I’m sad to see the show go (and a little bit more sad with the disappointing ending of the series finale), but there have been moments of the show that are great to reminisce about. Here are my top fave moments:

The Infamous Basketball Game

To Ascertain the Dispostion And Intent Of One Miss Lara Perkins

Dana & Shane on Influence (Tegan and Sara cameo)

The Best Episode Opening of The L Word: Luck Be A Lady (first 10 minutes)

Alice finding out about Shane and Jenny and texting everyone about it

Michelle Obama Covers O Magazine with Oprah

Michelle Obama's Oprah Magazine cover

Michelle Obama graces another yet another magazine as the new First Lady, this time its with Oprah! Speaking to Oprah about her new life in the white house and how she’ll use her new status to benefit of other women. I’ve been collecting Obama magazine and newspaper covers since his nomination for the Democratic Party was announced in June last year, so I’m definitely picking this up. Check out a snippet of the article here .

Phenomenal Woman: Michelle Obama

1 Mar

Michelle Obama is now my new role model. Not because she is the United States first African-American First Lady, but because she has achieved so much as an African-American woman. Being that she’s ivy-league educated and raised from a two parent home, she breaks the stereotype of how society views African-American lives. Her intelligence and achievements aren’t the exception to the rule, but the actuality that is being forced on to every ney-sayer who believes that people of color cannot achieve the same lifestyle as white Americans. She’s a phenomenal woman.
