CosmoGIRL Magazine Folds

CosmoGIRL Magazine is folding after almost a decade of informing teenage girls about fashion, style, beauty and life issues. Out of all the teen magazines that I read when I was a teen, CosmoGIRL was my favorite. It had the perfect mix of beauty tips, fashion trends as well as stories about real teenage girls, advice colums with questions I often thought (but never asked) and news that was mandatory for teenage girls to know. I am sad to see it go. I worked for them as a stringer and was hoping to intern for them in a couple years. A New York Times article reports, “These younger teen-oriented books have been slowly dying off,” said Carolyn Dubi, director of print at Initiative, the agency that handles media planning for clients including Dr Pepper. Teenagers, she said, are either going to the Web, or “they’re turning toward books that are not so teen-oriented, so they’ll turn to a Cosmopolitan or a Glamour or a Vogue.” . Its website, CosmoGIRL.com, will still available after its last issues hits new-stands in December.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, I chose to feature pop/rock singer JD Natasha (and because I love music featuring female artists with strong voices). Born Natasha Jeanett Dueñas, the Florida native of Cuban and Argentine descent, debuted her first and only album, Imperfecta/Imperfect in 2004. She received praise for the single “Lágrimas” which was also nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category “Best Rock Song” She was also nominated for Best New Artist and Rock Solo Vocal Album. She has yet release any solo music, but according to her myspace page, she is lead singer of the rock/indie band Fancy Me Yet

If you haven’t heard, Connecticut has legalized same-sex marriage. Connecticut is now the third state in the country (i.e. California and Massachusetts) that allows gay marriage legally. Other states such as New Jersey, Vermont and Hawaii have civil unions a.k.a. domestic partnerships. Let’s hope it stays legal and continues to be established in the rest of the U.S. I’m posting Melange Lavonne’s new single, “I’ve Got You”, because it seemed appropriate, being that marriage and family life mostly go hand in hand.

New mother, socialite, and reality-TV star Nicole Richie, graces the cover of People Magazine, with daughter Harlow Madden. In her interview with People, she talks about the joys of motherhood and how it has changed her ways, especially in the cooking department. Although I don’t know Nicole personally, it does seem that motherhood has changed her for the better, which is definitely a good thing! Beyonce’s New Singles

Beyonce has just released two new songs off her new album, I Am… .The first single, “If I Were a Boy”is a beautiful ballad, produced by Toby Gad, who also produced Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. It’s mostly saying, is Beyonce were a boy, she would take advantage of the guys privelges but treat her girlfriend right, because she knows how it feels to be neglected by her boyfriend. The second single, Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) is said to be a sequel to her B’Day hit “Get Me Bodied”. The upbeat dance song’s hook “If you like it, then you should of put a ring on it”, basically sums up the song. Its about a man being jealous of his girlfriend dancing with another guy. I really like both singles, and can’t wait for her new album I Am…, which due out in November of this year. I think it should be playing frequently for several weeks, just like any other movie. I got their theatre info from the Logo’s website. It stated the movie theatres that are showing the film, and its premiere is October 24th, so I think all the theatres (except for the November showing in Palm Springs) will be premiering that day.
