If I had an Ipod….

30 Apr

I haven’t written an “If I had an Ipod” post in a while, but tons of new music have revived me to write reviews again. First off, I remember Amanda Diva as a VJ on MTV2, but after doing  research (googling LOL), I’ve found out she is a poet (she’s been on Russel Simmon’s Def Poetry Jam), artist (she paints) and rapper (her most current album, Life Experience is on itunes now). And after the release of Supa Woman, Ms. Amanda Diva has now released her second single “Windows Over Harlem”.  Its about  Harlem ,of course, its an ode it, shown in a positive light. The music video really goes with the song (which is really big because most videos today don’t show the same a message that the song gives). Its has an old-school feel meets new school showing elements of the past harlem, while also showing the present. It shows Hip-Hop is a positive, sophisticated light.

Cassie’s new single “Official Girl” off her up-coming sophomore album showcases her voice in a different tone. I know, I know, she’s no Whitney Houston, or Mariah Carey, or Christina Aguilera when it comes to singing, but with “Official Girl”she’s trying to use her vocals more. “Offical Girl” is about a girl wanting her relationship with her “boyfriend” to be official and to be exclusive to only each other. It’s a good dance song, I think its supposed to come out officially in September, but it feels like a summer time song, that’s just my opinion.

And last not but not least, Gavin Degraw. If you don’t know his face, you might as well know his voice, his single ” I Dont Want to Be” is the theme song to the CW hit drama “One Tree Hill”. And Zach Braff (Jersey native and star of the hit NBC comedy Scrubs) directed the video for Gavin’s second single “Chariot” (which is a way better song than his first single, in my opinion). Gavin’s new single ” I’m in Love with a Girl” is basically about what the title says, he’s in love with a girl. She’s this woman whose the complete opposite of him, someone he felt head over heels with, and cannot get enough of. The music video features former Laguna Beach reality-tv star  Kristen Cavallari as his love interest, while both of them are in a mall, having fun and trying to not be caught by the mall security guard. Yet another great song from a very talented artist.

I definitely recommend downloading all three songs, and definitely pick up Amanda Diva’s album, Life Experience. Now, if you’ve been reading for a while, you know I’m a cheap person, so I normally  wouldn’t write about anything I can’t afford, but this album is available on as a hard copy for only $ 7.99 ( and only $10 with shipping & handling). Most CD’s cost from $14.99 to $20.00, this is a bargain. I like a few songs I’ve heard from her, so I’m buying it,  check out her myspace page.

Labels or Love: Theme song to the Sex and the City Movie

23 Apr

The theme song to the Sex and the City Movie has been released and the lucky lady who gets to pin a song for one of the best tv shows-to-become-a-movie-of-all-time is: Fergie. Who else can bring energy, while still being sexy, fun and feminine. “Labels or Love”is the title of the theme song, which is about basically choosing to be with that special someone or to go with your fave Manolo Blahniks. It definitely represents the gals of Sex and the City. The soundtrack is something that I will definitely be picking up. With an eclectic mix of artists ranging from R&B and Soul artist India Arie to Pop Artist Jem to Oscar Winner Jennifer Hudson and Pop/Rock band Morning Wood. Click here to listen to the song

Congratulations to Tia Mowry & Cory Hardrict. If you haven’t heard, they were recently married over the weekend. I am a long time fan of Sister Sister. I’ve been a fan since it first debuted on ABC during TGIF (Does anyone remember that?  Boy Meets World & Family Matters, those were best shows) and later when the show moved to the WB (which is now CW LOL). Rant & Rave

18 Apr

Rant & Rave is a new segment about recent topics in pop culture. Just trying out something new. Think of it as a gossip update and an open forum at the same time. Please leave me your thoughts about it.

-Congrats to Ashlee Simpson & Pete Wentz for getting engaged last week. Although there is a rumor going around that she is pregnant, there could also be a very good chance she’s using the rumor for publicity.

-Foxy Brown has been released from prison today. All the drama she went through (and caused) in jail and before, it seems like yesterday she was convicted. Do you think being in jail (as well as her chaotic behavior) will benefit  her career or damage it?

- VH1 premeired its new reality TV show, Ego Trip’s Ms. Rap Supreme this week. Although I’m not a big fan of hip-hop, I am a big fan of Ego Trip’s Race-o-Rama mini series, so I decided to check it out. Again, I’m not a big fan of hip-hop, but I guess some of the women picked had some talent (i was glad someone from New Jersey made the top 10, Is it obvious that I’m a Jersey Girl LOL). Anyway, the show seems kinda scripted, and not really aimed at showing hip hop in a positive way. It almost plays on the stereotypes of black women and hip hop artists (just like Ego-Trip’s The White Rapper Show). I guess it is a way of exposure for the rappers, but I don’t understand why Khia is a contestant (she had a single and an album out a couple years back , so she’s had her time as new artist trying to establish herself.) What do you think about the show?

“Damaged” by Danity Kane

18 Apr

I haven’t posted any lyrics to any great songs in along time. Damaged by Danity Kane, off their new album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, is a song I cannot get out of my head. I’ve been hearing it on z100, the video is being shown on MTV all the time, and their album has been doing well on the Billboard Charts, so because of promotion and it being a catchy dance song, its played everywhere and I love it. Here are the lyrics.

Damaged

-Verse 1-

Do, Do you got a first aid kit handy?
Do, Do you know how to patch up a wound?
Tell me
Are you patient,
Understanding?
Cause I might need some time to clear the hole in my heart and I
I’ve tried every remedy
And nothing seems to work for me
Baby, (baby)
This situation is driving me crazy
And I really want to be your lady
But the one before you left me so

-Chorus-
Damaged, Damaged
Damaged, Damaged
I thought that I should let you know
That my heart is
Damaged, damaged
So Damaged
And you can blame the one before
So how you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
-Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?-
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
-Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?-
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
-Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?-

-Verse 2-

Do Do you got a first aid kit handy?
Do Do you know how to patch up a wound?
Tell me
Are you patient
Understanding?
Cause I might need some time to clear the hole in my heart and I
You try to gain my trust
Talking is not enough
Actions speak louder than words
You gotta show me something
My heart is missing some pieces
I need this puzzle put together again

-Chorus-
Damaged, Damaged
Damaged, Damaged
I thought that I should let you know
That my heart is
Damaged, damaged
So Damaged
And you can blame the one before
So how you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
-Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?-
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
-Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?-
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
-Baby I gotta know what you are gonna do?-

-Bridge-

Can you fix my h-e-a-r-t
Cause it d-a-m-a-g-e-d
Can you fix my h-e-a-r-t
Tell me are you up for the challenge
Cause my heart is

-Chorus-

Damaged,
Damaged
I thought that I should let you know
That my heart is
Damaged
So Damaged
And you can blame the one before

Damaged,
Damaged
I thought that I should let you know
That my heart is
Damaged
So Damaged
And you can blame the one before
So how you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it
How you gonna fix it, fix it, fix it

-Brigde-

My heart is
Damaged,
Damaged,
Damaged

My heart is
Damaged,
Damaged,
Damaged

My heart is
Damaged,
Damaged,
Damaged

My heart is
Damaged,
Damaged,
Damaged

My heart is
Damaged

Long Time No See

18 Apr

So, I haven’t written anything in a couple of weeks. I’ve been busy with school, and work, and the stress of school LOL. But now I’m back with more posts about beauty, music, fashion and pop culture. Thanks for sticking around and leaving comments on my other post. I’m really like that there is a debate is starting, by leaving comments on Melange Lavonne’s Gay Bash Lyrics, I really like getting feedback from my readers.

P.S. I posted this Mariah Carey concert video, performing her one of many hit songs, “Make it Happen”. Its very inspirational to me, and since her album is out this week, it was best to promote her music (although I really love her older music from the 90′s, than what she has now)

40 Years Later

4 Apr

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Jr. assassination. For someone who truly represented peace and for everyone, regardless of ethnicity, to live together with discrimination based on the color of their skin, I can not and still do not understand why he had to pass away.
What were people afraid of? 1) Were they scared that people of all cultures would come to the realization that color of a person’s skin does not determine their rights as a citizen, 2) and it doesn’t make a group of people superior to another, and 3) that people can actually think for theirselves and not be controlled by ignorance and stereoypes.
What would our country be like if Dr. King was still alive today? Would still debate on whether having a man of color or a woman be a possible candidate shows how far USA  has come as a nation or would it already be apart of the norm? Would we not care about Celebrity Culture or would we still feign for Beyonce & Jay-Z’s wedding photos? I know this blog doesn’t have alot of political posts, but it just had me thinking.
-P.S. I think WordPress is doing some more changes again, so the font is messing up.
