Get Yours: by Amy DuBois Barnett

29 Feb

getyours1.jpg

Since Today is the last day of Black History Month, I decided to write this post about an African-American woman who has made broken down boundaries for women of color in the mainstream magazine industry. Amy Dubois Barnett is a magazine veteran, having over 10 years of experience in the magazine industry which includes being the Editor in Chief of the late but now back to life Honey Magazine, and the Managing Editor of the late Teen People Magazine. Being Managing Editor at Teen People made her the first African-American woman to run a mainstream publication (she’s currently the Deputy Editor in Chief at Harper’s Bazaar). Now, Amy’s recently came out with a novel: Get Yours: The Girlfriends’s Guide to Having Everything You Ever Dreamed of And More. Get Yours is a mix of an advice column with celeb interviews (including Hill Harper, Sanaa Lathan and Gabrielle Union) and Amy dishing about her own trials and tribulations. It kind of reminds me of Iyanla Vanzant’s novel “Don’t Give It Away” only with a twenty to thirty something modern day twist. I already have my copy, be sure to check out her website to get more info about Get Yours.

Nicole Richie Introduces Newborn

28 Feb

Congrats to Nicole and Joel on their new addition, Harlow!!!!

If you’re into the latest celeb baby news, then you should know that Nicole Richie has recently taken a few photos of her and her newborn Harlow Kate, for People Magazine. The issue hits stands this Friday. I know that since I’m posting this info , I am adding to the popularity of celebs/socialites and their children. However, it seems awfully bad that a celeb/socialite has to be put in a situation where they have to publicize their own children. What do you think?

The Secret

The Secret

For all you people who read this blog, do you believe in The Secret? Does it really work? What do you think of it?

I’ve seen this on Oprah, and it does make sense. If you send out negative vibes, or always have a pessimistic vibe, negative things will happen and if you think optimistic thoughts and do positive things, your life will be positive. Its karma: what you do will come back to you. I saw the first twenty minutes of the secret and I’m tempted to buy the book and/or the DVD, to see if The Secret really works and maybe do an experiment with following the rules of The Secret for 30 days (because of the show 30 days, from film-maker Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me)  It’ll be featured on my other blog: A.N.E.W., I’ll blog about it every three days, starting later during the week. Be sure to check it out and give me your thoughts about The Secret

Suave Cocoa Butter Moisturizer

22 Feb

I’ve been using Suave’s Cocoa Butter Moisturizer since high-school. I’ve always loved the scent and used it religiously because it is also made with Shea butter (which is supposed to be the best thing when keeping skin moisturized). I’ve always received several comments when I wear it. The teture isn’t too thick and too thin, it keeps skin moisturized and it doesn’t cost that much, its about 5 to 7 dollars depending on where you go. I definitely recommend to buy it.

P.S. This have nothing to do with Shea Butter unless she recieved it as a gift at her baby shower. Jennifer Lopez has gave birth to twins, one boy and one girl. Its great to see that a woman can have a career, and still have time later on to start a family. Comgratulations to her and Marc Anthony!!!!

Leona vs. Mariah

The Next Mariah Carey

22 Feb

I first heard about British Singer Leona Lewis on the Wendy Williams Experience. Leona was proposed to be the next Mariah Carey, more ways than one. Leona’s voice is powerful, complete with an octave range that can challenge Mariah’s, she is of mixed heritage (being half Guyanese/Afro-Caribbean on her father’s side, and half Anglo-Welsh on her mother’s side) and has had a couple number one hits (everywhere) which include a remake of Kelly Clarkson’s first single “A Moment Like This” as well as Lewis’ current hit “Bleeding Love”. Her single “Bleeding Love” has debuted in the U.S. this year, and is quickly becoming a hit, already becoming a contender on Z100′s top 9 at 9. I’ve listened to it and really love the song, and she has a great voice.
