 ”Gay Bash” by Melange Lavonne

Kevin was a friend to me we hit it off from

the very beginning he had a very big heart,

That boy was my best friend and that’s real talk

and those who hated Kevin didn’t know Kev at all
Cause I’m about to let yall know you got it twisted

you just see the paint but don’t see the big picture
You go and preach hate but hide behind scripture

you point the finger first but you the worst sinner
I’m angry cause his life was short that’s not fair

you condemn him to going to hell he’s not there
He was good, he was love, he was all of thee above

so I don’t understand how you do not care
You go to church every week you call this devotion

Hide behind the police and say your word is spoken
Your faith is only what you only see your eyes wide open
You say you’re a man of god but you going through the motions

Chorus:

Listen, you ain’t a Christian you go and preach hate

you call yourself a church together you congregate then

turn around and point the finger discriminate

then spit in my face condemn me for being gay

Verse Two:

Yo I think me and Kevin, yeah we both know that this life

I mean world, this world is so cold
I don’t feel safe any place anymore and

you come up in my face just watch me slam the door
Well people take the law in they own hands I gotta take

a stand and represent him for him I’ll go to war
An advocate for peace but peace is what for

You stay ignorant it means you not know
Its 2007 man why u even give a damn

why concentrating on someone life they living in
If society say us people ain’t fitting in ignore us

close your eyes and stop listening
Guess you ain’t got no life nothing to do

tell you what concentrate on you and just you
Yo, I represent those who opposes hate not

people who hate two faced saying god is great

 Chorus:

Listen, you ain’t a Christian you go and preach hate

you call yourself a church together you congregate then turn

around and point the finger discriminate

then spit in my face condemn me for being gay

Verse Three:

Can’t believe they did this what happen was foul

And everything that happen don’t make sense right now
And I feel it’s about to go down I want revenge for

taking my best friend and making his life end
And people are afraid of someone who ain’t them

if I were to hate I would be just like them
So I can’tand I won’t cause I’m better than that

But it won’t change the fact that he ain’t coming back
So I gotta be strong now I got my reason to

stand up for people like Kevin who stop breathing
Cause I’m there with you every step of the way

You ain’t gotta be afraid of what society say
Cause I been there before the lowest point in my life

Considered suicide a feeling that I wanted to die
But I survived and you are not alone in this fight
Take a stand for equality and fight for your right.

Chorus:

Listen, you ain’t a Christian you go and preach hate

you call yourself a church together you congregate then turn

around and point the finger discriminate

then spit in my face condemn me for being gay

I love this song because it tells the truth. This world is full of hypocrites.

    You, Lavonne girl,

What did Christians do to you, that you hate them so much?
I’m sorry, but that’s what comes out of your song.

  3. Rambo January 11, 2008 at 2:11p01 #

    Here is my response:

You are bashing Christians, that’s how you preach hate,
Queer sex is sinful, that’s our right to say it,
I know it hurts your feelings, perhaps you repent,
Repentance leads love and life, even if you’re gay.

Just a comment to Rambo. I’m not trying to disrespect you or anything, but if you’re going to make a comment like that. At least respect and don’t call it queer. The bible doesn’t and neither should you.

Hey Ash! thanks for posting that informaton. I wanted to find out more information when I heard this song. Melange Lavonne does a nice job with this song, and really expresses in words feelings of those who have been discriminated against by religion. Self expression of these feelings gives us hope. Did you know that it is estimated that in the US, a teen takes their own life every five hours be cause they are gay, bisexual, or transgender and can’t deal with all the stress brought on from discrimination in their family and loved ones and from the general hate towards gay people. Thank you so much for looking out!

Awesome reference to the Westboro Baptist Church and their bigotry against gays. Very powerful lyrics.

What did Christians do to her?! They persecute. Christians think they have every right to control people’s rights, from constitutional bans on gay marriage to laws against sodomy. Christians control the government and then they make laws to discriminate. That’s what Christians do to her. I can completely understand and relate.

    Well, Rambo, here’s MY response:
“Queer” sex (could you please refer to it as “gay sex”) may be as sinful as you like in your opinion, but you and other Christians have no business making laws that restrict people’s private lives, and have no right to go around calling people sinners. Since not everybody believes in the Bible, not everybody believes that gay sex is sinful, therefore, they should not have to be subjected to laws that discriminate.
No one can repent from being gay. Repentance is for sins, and being yourself in all facets of yourself (including your romantic and sexual life) is not a sin. So where does repentance come in?

Melange, you rock. Your lyrics are awesome, best of the kind I ever heard. May God bless you, and bring equality to LGTBT citizens of America and the rest of the world.

    hmm so
#1 if your so against “queer sex” as you so ignorantly call it then let me know why your on a website promoting gay lyrics?! because no matter how you try and defend yourself this is NOT a pop up site!
#2 you read the bible right?… well obviously you skipped the book of mathew where it says… and i quote “shut the fuck up”

    oh and
#3 I myself am a christian and a homosexual… but you know lately i’ve been getting ashamed to call myself a christian because of uneducated responses such as the one you just proclaimed…

    kthanks

  14. Crystal April 25, 2008 at 2:11p04 #

Wow it amazes me how people can be ignorant.. I am proud of my homosexuality and believe I have the right to be myself. It’s not about hating christians but about how a majority of christians tell people how to live there life, if I choose to be christian then we are open to that discussion but I am not so please don’t preach on how I should live my life. If I go to “hell” for being gay then so be it I am not asking for help or for your gospel. Tomorrow the April 25th is a day of silence at my school for DISCRIMINATION OF ANY KIND, I’m excited :)

Same here, Amanda Lee. I feel like I can’t openly believe in God and then go “but hey, I’m also gay”. It is really awful to be stripped of my faith for something as irrelevant as my sexual orientation.

just to half-quote martin luther king…. “i have a dream… that one day gay lesbian and bisexual people can live just as straight people do, that there will be no discrimination against people that are just different” as melange says is 2007 man why you even give a damn… so just close your fuckin eyes and look away cuz its our fuckin life not urs let us live and shut the hell up u homophobic ass holes

  19. Peanut August 12, 2008 at 2:11p08 #

I hate when people use religion as an excuse. When did God ever say that he hated gays? Nor did Jesus. Now, it has been mentioned a few times in the scriptures. But does that necessarily make it a sin? Does God really hate us. No, because we are all sinners. God loves us all, he may hate the sins that we do but not the sinners.

Sins are chosen. Homosexuality is not. It is something we are constituted with such as left/right-handedness. Fully-constituted meaning that it cannot be cured nor need to be by those mental doctors. They might have thinking they’re straight, but that is not what they’re heart say. The conditions come, even as being a heterosexual. Its all genetic, hormonal, and very early societal development. I mean, when did most of the population chose that they were heterosexuals?

This si my faorite song.. i love the message and melange lavonne is my hero real talk..

I personally don’t think she is bashing on christians at all. I think she’s just bashing against those that say they do what God wants, yet they hate others. God wants us to love everyone regardless of what they do.

This song is a truth song and I love it i so want the whole world to listin to this song!!!! os yayuh!! love this song

i love this song and she is not bashing christians she just really tells what one should be and if your hating someone because they are gay then your not a real christian because one you hating the fact that they are gay is not going to change them and two two wrongs do not make a wright what you should do is pray for them not bash and band from church since its so wrong the CHRISTIANS should want the sinners to come to church so they can repent and converting people over to christ as a christian my self i ask isn’t that one of our missions anyway i love the song and fuck anybody who dosn’t see i just sinned i cursed but are you gonna ban me from church for it no so why should you hold one sin greater than the other case closed i really do love the song

  24. Human Nature February 5, 2009 at 2:11p02 #

I would just like to say 2 things:

    1. I love love love love love love love LOVE this song!!!!!!!!!
    2. In Canada, where I am from, the term “queer” has been reclaimed here, especially among the youth, the generation before, many of them still view it as a negative term. For many queer is a more inclusive term than just labeling everyone within the community “gay” especially transgender and transsexual people, transsexuality is a gender identity NOT a sexual orientation. I just want to make that clear. Like the little shooting star says “the more you know..”

  25. Natasha February 26, 2009 at 2:11p02 #

Gay-bashing is wrong, no doubt. But people takes things waaaayyyyyy too seriously anyway. I just found this other song here on WordPress and even though it’s really bad, it made me have to laugh it’s just soooooo out there.

I have got to say this song touched home to me. As you can tell from my name I am from Jamaica a very homophobic and Religion oriented country. I have known few gays who die from gay bashing.

I am a Christian and a lesbian, one of many in this homophobic country. Sometimes I feel ashame to be a christian with the way they behave towards our community but I have to remember not everyone is like that.

I am glad to see an artist like Melange, and hope to get her CD. Know many Jamaican’s gays have seen your video and support you completely.

Keep up the good work Melange, and continue to speak your mind and help show the world that our community have a right to life just like anyone else.

People if yur not gay y da fuck r yu listN 2 dis song r look at da lyric like wat da fuck…..

  28. Kiki August 17, 2009 at 2:11p08 #

This is to all the ignorant people posting here. She isnt bashing Christians. She is bashing the people who are “fake” Christians. People who call themselves followers of god, yet don’t act it. God loves everyone, he accepts you for who you are. There are more bad things in the bible against straight people than there are against gays. And to Amber, you don’t have to be gay to listen to this and know that she is right. You just have to be a human who is aware of what’s going on in the world. If you think her lyrics are wrong or that she is “bashing” people herself than you live under a rock and are living in a perfect world….which does not exist.

btw.. I LOVE this song, and im going to pass it on to all my friends.

  29. star October 24, 2009 at 2:11p10 #

wow wow wow…. she is not saying anything about christians in general… she is saying that ppl that hate and judge gays are not TRUE christians…. there is such thing as GAY CHRISTIANS …. and there are places that dont turn us away… look up mcc church…. they’re all over now… ok well almost everywhere… anyways…. she is sayin that there are alot of christians out there that are just two faced and dont even look at there own sins…. besides the bible was written in a different language…. and btw they didnt have a word for gay/homosexuals in those days…. so the word in the bible that was translated to homosexuals litterally means beastiality… look it up…. i know thats not the only place but there are holes all over…. on top of that did you kno that mary had a chapter in the bible that king james took out and had burned along with alot of other chapters that he didnt agree with….. that means we dont have the whole story anyways….. just tellin ya how it is…
